Sam’s Bio: I grew up in the Irvington Neighborhood of Portland, OR. Studied Journalism/Advertising at the University of Oregon. Worked as a location scout/location manager for 5 years after graduating, mostly on feature films, mostly but not all filmed in Oregon. Took a job at Wieden+Kennedy/Joint Editorial as an assistant editor in 1997. Became an editor there in ‘98 and stayed till 2002 when I accepted a position as the editor at CharlieUniformTango in Austin, TX. Four years later I opened my own post house, Beast Austin with my partners at Beast LA/NY. Sold Beast in 2011 and continued editing there till 2016. I’ve continued freelance editing since then, as well as broadened my experience in other creative pursuits.

My objective as an editor is to help more talented storytellers tell their stories. My first goal is to show them an edit that is exactly what they had imagined in their minds’ eyes. My second goal is to show them something they hadn’t.

I’m currently living in both Austin and Portland. Editing is still one of my passions and I hope to continue doing it in some manner the rest of my working life. My son, Henry, recently joined me as a junior editor and has become a fine young talent, if I do say so myself. Thank you again for your interest. I hope to work with you soon.
